       FALL 2010 VENUS RETROGRADE

Venus will be going retrograde on October 7, 2010 at 3:03 am EDT at 13 degrees 13 minutes of Scorpio.   It turns direct on November 18, 2010 at 4:17 pm EST at 27 degrees 40 minutes of Libra.

As the mythological goddess of love the planet Venus governs all relationships – romantic, platonic, aesthetic, and diplomatic.  Its influence is to beautify, harmonize and soften.  Without Venus there would be less refinement and more coarseness.

While retrograde the things Venus influences will be less evident or of diminished interest in the world.  Considerably decreased is the importance of our visual sensibilities.  People dress with less flair. One’s color sense tends to be muted.  Now is not the time to purchase    
clothes or jewelry, experiment with new make-up, change your hair styles or color.  Bad hair days occur more often as well as “just not looking right.”  Don’t feel out of place if you go to a social occasion and wind up wearing the wrong thing.  Overdressed or undressed you won’t be alone.

During a Venus retrograde period, people will be less inclined towards balance and harmony.  One should avoid opening an artistic or musical show while Venus is retrograde, as individuals are less in touch with the outer expression of beauty and creativity. There’s more or a tendency to favor trashy entertainment especially some of the reality shows which follow the lives of the Kardashians, Levi Johnston, some former porno star or one of Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriends.

Social relationships are likely to proceed at a slower pace.  One is more likely to attend parties where everyone arrives late or leaves early. Or attending a pot luck dinner and bringing an appetizer when entrees are required or bringing an entrée and its all chips and dips.  Those getting married during this period will have their work cut out for them.  Venus rules harmony and newlyweds will have to try harder to obtain it at their weddings and throughout their marriage.

Venus rules diplomacy, so slowdowns in all sorts of negotiations can be expected, including labor unions, legal matters and world diplomacy.  Individuals and nations just won’t get it “right.”  Peace negotiations and cooperation will be even more difficult to achieve.

Avoid elective cosmetic surgery although the time when Venus is stationary, right before it goes retrograde is a plus for any kind of aesthetic procedure or beauty treatment.  Although Venus will no longer be retrograde after November 18 it would be best to wait until it comes to the degree where it went retrograde on (December 20], for any kind of beauty treatment although if you can’t wait until that optimum time after November 18 should be OK.

It is an excellent time to seek the beauty of the inner being by opening oneself up to spiritual harmony and such practices as relaxation and meditation.  I know an accomplished artist born with Venus retrograde whose spiritual awareness and inner beauty is evident in her paintings.  Venus retrograde doesn’t negate artistic awareness it just increases the inner stimulus for creating it.

Individuals born with this position seek an inner meaning in both beauty and harmony.  They feel it is not just how wearing a pair of earrings will look but what the inner meaning is in wearing them.  What does the gemstone signify does it have any healing properties.

Venus will be retrograde in Scorpio from October 8 through November 7 when it enters Libra.  Scorpio rules transformations including eliminations and removal of debris.  Generically speaking it would be a favorable time for cleansings and purges in the body as well as clearing out one’s material “stuff.”  Along with Taurus it governs money, but usually the money one can’t easily put one’s hands on, particularly that given to money managers or investment counselors. It’s not the time to take risks with one’s finances. 

On November 7 through the end of the retrograde on November 18 and beyond Venus moves into Libra,  sign of harmony and relationships.  People become more cognizant of whom they are with or want to be with.  Ironing out differences can take a little work if you basically get along.  But if there are major issues and a counselor is called for, decisions and breakthroughs are more likely to occur after Venus goes direct.

When a planet is stationary, the time it is either about to go retrograde or direct in motion, its influence is most intense.   About a week or so either way, the world begins to wake up to Venus.  There can be a buying spree, increased releases of new musical material, a rash of parties and socializing, as well as the onset and development of romantic relationships.  Importantly progress can be made in the resolution of differences between individuals and nations.  The station occurs a few days before and after Venus changes directions.  But as mentioned before if you can stand it try waiting until Venus comes to the retrograde point on December 20 to do any major esthetics. Mercury will be retrograde from December 10 through the 30^th, so if it’s something really important as cosmetic surgery or marriage and you want to get it right, it would be wise to wait until after that too.

Venus goes retrograde approximately every year and a half.  The next one begins on May 15, 2012 and ends on June 27, 2012.   So be forewarned if you or anyone you know is planning a wedding at that time.
