I spent yesterday in the Triangle area; Raleigh, Durham & Chapel Hill, NC. Temps there ranged from 104˚ - 106˚. Back in Wilmington, NC predictions for today are 102˚ and are predicted to be in the 90˚ range for the coming week. Toasty...
Lots of water and lemon/lime, salads, watermelon and other cooling foods, herbs and deep recesses of shade...

Chakra Rising Wave Series 1 - 7
Took this shot yesterday of the installation of "Chakra Rising Wave Series 1 - 7" at Organic Yoga in Wilmington, NC. Thankyou(s) to Lorrie and Eric Wagner for the opportunity and for hanging them.
Each panel w/loops on bamboo rods can be viewed more clearly on my archival website http://www.greenartstudio.com/galleryrising.html. I did these in 2008. They are 18" x 23" and done with beeswax and eco-friendly pigments on Khadi papers. This is the first time they have been hung for show vertically, thanks to the high ceilings at this wonderful yoga space.

recycled cloth hung to dry spiraling downward...
recycled canvas cloth hung to dry spiraling downward... |
- the nature of egg carton is porous and dark inside.
- my getting and leaving things too wet gave the mold a perfect supportive environment.
- the mold appeared during 2 - 3 days of very rainy, dark & humid weather that I described in earlier posts on the first attempt.
So "bullet" "bullet" "bullet" = a few weeks of producing art work with nature...

"roots and seeds" (b)
this diptych "roots and seeds" on my studio floor this morning is an emerging growth of "close up of a new". Named now "roots and seeds" is at http://bit.ly/KCYqOU, entered June 6, 2012
mounted on two semi-identical recycled furniture parts that mirror each other. These are taped and I will use recycled wood screws to tie this partially worked Himalayan grid paper to them.
"roots and seeds" with slices of a turmeric rhizome and a lily seed pod as core to each panel expression. Wheat paste has been drawn in to each panel, roots a grounded design and seeds that of the pod's expression of above dispersing to ground. It's a spring/summer time event.

yellow
many artists' refer to yellow as being the most difficult color to work with. some of this difficulty they say is the physical lower strength/intensity of the pigments in the yellow range.
from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow
"The word "yellow" comes from the Old English geolu, or geolwe which derived from the Proto-Germanic word gelwaz.[3]According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the oldest known use of this word in English is from The Epinal Glossary in the year 700.[4]
In the English language, yellow has traditionally been associated with jaundice and cowardice.[5] Yellow is associated with the word "caution" and is the second light on stop lights. The color is associated with aging as well, for both people and objects (e.g. "yellowed" paper). Ethnographically, the term "yellow" has been used as a slang term for both Asians ("yellow peril") and, in the early 20th century, light-skinned African-Americans (High yellow).
"Yellow" ("giallo"), in Italy, refers to crime stories, both fictional and real. This association began in about 1930, when the first series of crime novels published in Italy had yellow covers. The term "yellow movie" (黃色電影) can refer to films of pornographic nature in Chinese culture, and is analogous to the English "blue movie".[6] Lastly, it is associated with sensational journalistic practices, or yellow journalism, and resistance to militant trade unions.[7]"
Meaning "light-skinned" (of blacks) first recorded 1808. Applied to Asiatics since 1787, though the first recorded reference is to Turkish words for inhabitants of India. Yellow peril translates Ger. die gelbe gefahr. Sense of "cowardly" is 1856, of unknown origin; the color was traditionally associated rather with treachery. Yellow-bellied "cowardly" is from 1924, probably a rhyming reduplication of yellow; earlier yellow-belly was a sailor's name for a half-caste (1867) and a Texas term for Mexican soldiers (1842, based on the color of their uniforms). Yellow dog "mongrel" is attested from c.1770; slang sense of "contemptible person" first recorded 1881. Yellow fever attested from 1748, Amer.Eng. (jaundice is a symptom)."
- The Christian holiday of Easter is represented by the colors yellow and lavenderbecause the crocus flower, which is yellow and lavender, blooms in Europe in the spring.
- In the metaphysics of the New Age Prophetess, Alice A. Bailey, in her system called the Seven Rays which classifies humans into seven different metaphysical psychological types, the fourth ray of harmony through conflict is represented by the color yellow. People who have this metaphysical psychological type are said to be on the Yellow Ray. "[39]
- In Hinduism, yellow is used to symbolically represent the third, solar plexuschakra (Manipura).[40]
- Psychics who claim to be able to observe the aura with their third eye report that someone with a yellow aura is typically someone who is in an occupation requiring intellectual acumen, such as a scientist.[41]
- In Europe, many liberal parties are symbolised by the color yellow, including the Free Democratic Party (Germany),Liberal Forum (Austria), Estonian Reform Party, National Liberal Party (Romania) and Liberal and Centre Union(Lithuania). The pan-European Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party also use the color yellow.
- A group of NGOs by the name of Bersih (Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections) had used the color yellow to symbolize their fight against corruption in election in Malaysia. The giant rally was organized on 9 July 2011.
- The ancient Maya associated the color yellow with the direction South. The Maya glyph for "yellow" (k'an) also means "precious" or "ripe".[38]

a 2005 Mt. Greylock diptych
Mt. Greylock diptych 5 1/2" x 10 1/2" beeswax/natural pigment on recycled wood
this piece i never photographed until visiting with friends that have it this spring. Mt Greylock in
NW MA was subject in many of my paintings in 2005. the energetics of the wave(s) of the mountain(s) and land/space were a conscious awareness for me as i shifted from a physical interpretation to an energetic understanding of the space we reside or harmonize with and working with it seasonally, physically, and more toward the energetic in my heart of being the art and not relying on mental based romance of landscape painting per say.

egg carton foundation for the arts d
the white mold invasion continues on this pie(ea)ce... i used rubbing alcohol after it appeared in the underpainting & tea tree oil last night and this morning after a second underpainting yesterday. i don't want to use boric acid (toxicity) and wonder about Borax leaving a film on the textured surface. then there's the possibility of just letting it grow and filming the live mold art of the egg carton foundation for the arts! with my mold allergies that experiment isn't likely.
the mold has subsided/died off with the tea tree treatments. will rid the mold before adding more water element...

egg carton foundation for the arts b
blurred shot showing poured wheat paste in seams between cartons. this reinforces
the plane of the foundation and adheres the egg cartons together while adhering them
more to the canvas backing and reinforcing the structure of the piece.
its wetness, after drying softens and tweaks wave energy over the dried surfaces.
used charcoal to color each peak of the inverted egg carton under the paper construct
and wheat pasted the peaks, placing the paper construct over those peaks...

Cherrie's Tanager
this is a male Cherrie's Tanager of the Pacific Coast Costa Rica. while I was in Dominical
one followed me around quite a bit. He wing touched me twice, one on the left cheek and one on the right. the writer at http://creagrus.home.montereybay.com/tanagers.html reports spectrographically the intense red on male Ramphocelus is the brightest red in the bird world. With each brushing Cherrie's bright red exploded, flashing this red throughout my vision and being. I'll be looking, meditating and learning on this more during the next year.
