Labor and Rain here in the Berkshires for Labor Day weekend…
In these pieces I’m coordinating the application of pigments
and wheat flour/sea salt
with the various rains; downpour, steady, to sprinkles and
the length of time I leave them in the rain for their textural, binding and
energetic qualities with the rain as the vehicle for the pigment/flour salt.
I can work the color, line, form and overall design, etc.
with just the dry or use the rain to wet the cardboard initially. My methods of application are widely variable
within that conditional range...

| Red Rectangle in a Space |
9" x 7"
cassein, beeswax/natural pigment
cassein, beeswax/natural pigment
It strikes me that today's, tomorrow's and Wednesday's posts describe our western concept of space (myself, my yard, my/our city/town & my/our country), time (Daylight Savings Time), our Education Systems (with the possible exception of Finland and some other creativity based schools) and our politic in general (one and two party governments). With the exception of Japan, India, China and most of Africa and Australia the rest of us use DST. We pigeon hole politics, religion, education & my/our art. And we wonder why we are stuck, use less than 10% of our brain, don't talk to strangers, imprison, and etc....

"...a pro(c)(g)ressing transformation..." note 16
| it's a couch painting |
Have not yet found a local beekeeper who has enough to supply me with the wax. The beeswax & Dammar resin I ordered from www.earthpigments.com.
"Dammar is a natural resin used as a very traditional medium and varnish. For use as a varnish, dissolve the resin in a solvent such as turpentine or our citrus solvent. Dammar can also be melted. It is often combined with beeswax for Encaustic painting to harden and add gloss. Our 100 g Dammar resin is smaller pieces packaged in cotton bags ready to submerge in 200 ml of solvent, and the 250g and 500g are sold as loose nuggets. Obtained from a renewable resource, its production helps support indigenous people and protect the rainforest by replacing other non-renewable industries such as logging. Melting point 176 degrees farenheit. Do not heat over an open flame."
Earthpigments also has many recipes on their site. I'm using a recipe I got from another source because.
