moving
For painters moving, most items for packing are paintings.
For the close eye, how many porpoise can you see in the backyard?
For the past week and a half the critters have been heading south by the thousands. First were the pelicans soaring with their wing tips measuring the wave they were riding. The ducks and geese. Ducks with flickering wings just over the the waters surface further out from shore. The geese, higher and gliding the upper currents. All in their formations. Today it has been the porpoise, all day, the pods of 2 to twenty making their way by, down to warmer waters and air.
For all my friends in the NE, the cold has set in.

Cementon
Cementon 12" x 28" Mixed Media |
Have had a few Hockney discussions since his opening in UK. While moving most work into storage, sorting, notes.... ran across this piece I did in the late eighties. Had seen Hockney's photo works and had been doing them. The first I did in Rosendale NY in 1984. It's in terrible condition and I'm not looking forward to cleaning it. "Cementon" I find amusing. The water stains and dead mold draw with design of my drawing and photos. A Biomimicry, with "nature" following us. A wonder full exchange! A painting came out of this; http://www.greenartstudio.com/cementon.html |

latest work... a progressing transformation note 4
This is the first panel of two panels at near completion. Will develop the second panel and bring it to the point of comparative completion to the first, and then finalize both panels as diptych like. Keep in mind that come Summer Solstice the next major transformation of this project will take place.
a couple points to make:
- art work created to be a/part of ceremony/ritual nourishing, healing and aligning our spirit, mind and body to the transformational way in which our lives enfold here on Earth and in nature.
- serve to stabilize the sense of community in nature for the people.
- art making as functioning in aesthetics and ritual.

Chakra 1 Rising Wave
Chakra 1 Rising Wave 12" x 12" Beeswax & natural pigment on Khadi paper |
Chakra 1 Rising Wave is the first of seven in this Series. Chakras, the body's 7 energy centers, connect each of us with our environment on physical, mental and spiritual levels. The 7 Chakra System is the more commonly recognized in western cultures. In these works I use pure colors with the coiled lines of Kundalini.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundalini
Kundalini literally means coiled. In yoga, a "corporeal energy"[1] - an unconscious, instinctive or libidinal force or Shakti, lies coiled at the base of the spine.[2][3][4] It is envisioned either as a goddess or else as a sleeping serpent, hence a number of English renderings of the term such as 'serpent power'. The kundalini resides in the sacrum bone in three and a half coils and has been described as a residual power of pure desire.
The first Chakra is considered the root or sacral chakra. It is located at the lowest area corresponding to the spine in our sacral pelvic area. It is associated with connecting us to Earth and aids with maintaining our stability, sense of security, sensuality and sexuality

Happy Thanksgiving!
Always got a kick out this Rockwell illustration with the floating turkey. It appears to be filled with helium and Grandma is trying to keep it from rising toward the ceiling as the family is enjoying Grandpa's practical joke. The questione is did Norman paint it this way intentionally with his wry sense of humor.

they are from this week’s huge 350 EARTH project, what the newspapers are calling ‘the first planet-scale group art show.’
http://earth.350.org/big-pictures/
Santa Fe, NM
The Santa Fe EARTH event, showing how the Santa Fe River could look if there was water running through it. The Santa Fe River is one of the 10 most endangered rivers in North America. Over a 1,000 people came out and held up blue painted pieces of cardboard or tarps as a satellite passed over. The event was put on by 350.org and the Santa Fe Art Institute on November 20, 2010 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

from a sketch with porcelain tiles
As an idea develops in making art. Perhaps first came the realization many years ago that I was seeing "the wave" in the landscape. A mountain, a row of trees, a field, laying before me like a giant wave approaching. My interest and studies in energetic waves from radio waves to the wave of joy that spreads through our body as we accept it. The waves of a fever coming in through our neck as a virus invades. The waves of a vision manifesting... The understandings came together and I began intentionally painting the wave. The "Into the Waves Series", over a period of a few years developed. One day sitting on the toilet I looked down at the tiles on the floor and experienced what I call a Wholy Shit experience. There were the waves in the tiles, figuratively. Immediately popped into mind "rubbings" and the sketching began. A succession of doing, seeing more, and acting on the wave as it came through me figuratively and energetically.

Tile Violet Wave Beeswax & natural pigment on Khadi Paper 12" x 12"
“Tile Wave Series” began as rubbings from the textured waves in the patterned surfaces of 12 inch square porcelain tiles. I loosely taped the sides to allow imperfection in the edges. Using these given wave patterns on/in the tiles, I layered color gradations - building to a heightened texture to complete the process.

latest work... a progressing transformation note 3
Over the next time reference I will post notes of progressing transformation with this project...
progressing from somewhat developed/lived with/to morewhat developed/lived with
the Lotka paper is quite soft fiber and loosely bound with the itself/jute, fragile and requiring a slow, methodical process with the working of the wax colors (see note 2 for reference)
for many years with fascination and using in a white boy's way the Northwest NA ceremony of Potlatch and having attended several Tibetan Budhist Sand Painting Rituals I've edged closer to a more personal experience with the idea of letting go of an art created through a meaningful, intentful, focussed growth. (Attachment) My purpose here is/will be to celebrate the power of nature in its transformative state. We treasure/celebrate material gain in our cultures. After all possession is 9/10ths of the law. How
ego-centrically absurd and nebulus of us!. Through a general alchemy with fire. My intention is to complete this and another similar on the Lotka paper. In the summer of 2011, perhaps at Solstice or Full Moon I/We will ignite the ends of jute and video cam the process in exhibition. Ahhh, I would still "possess the video, nahhh. That too will no longer be viewed but transferred to another state the following year... Vidio that?!

Chilly Morning w/Sun
Chilly Morning w/Sun ©Greg Patch
Am a member of the online Artist Marketing Resources group the conversation was on how we became and put ourselves out being an artist. This was my response...
"I was the kid in school who the teacher asked to help them draw the maps on the blackboard. It was just something I did. I get butterflies in my stomach every time just before I show. I try to look at it as a positive excitement experience. Sometimes I get the same butterflies just before I go to work on a piece before me. I'll put some music on and the rhythm helps disperse the butterflies. Looking back at it I think realizing that it is not just one leap, but, a series of leaps and bounds, and plateaus [and perilous caverns] helps me to keep things in perspective. And cherishing that I still have a long way to go helps to keep it alive..."
In another conversation in the group this quote from Oscar Wilde; "The pure and simple truth is rarely pure and never simple." is appropriate here.
