Using a carved cow bone I draw/burnish the waxes toward the place I want them from the layered underpainting. This process is the time consuming and detail part of the work I do. This 16" x 24" painting will take anywhere from 25 to 35 hours to complete. Due to the nature of the beeswax in the summer, or when the sun is shining on my work table the wax is softer and this process moves a little quicker. The melting point of beeswax is about 145' F. During this process I often add more color when the underpainting is more thinly applied. Its just a different approach to it all depending on where I want to go with it, or "it" wants to go with me. The shadow will not be painted in.
