White Pine charcoal markings
4" x 5" panels
Khadi paper
Tillson NY

with this dyptich of drawings/markings I explore conscious unconscious continuities with left and right hands... this markings is with left hand with left panel, right with right panel...
after marking right panel I/conscious ego, and with awareness with unconscious levels aligned visually with the left side with similar line/markings... I was challenged mostly with left hand skills and mental connections markings responding to what my right hand had done... this a combination of my own maleness bias as well as my feminine bias testiness, again my perspective now with looking at it consciously and allowing unconscious to speak as a male...

charcoal markings with White Pine Pinus alba branches/sticks charred in Fire...
the resinous White Pine is known by many traditional cultures as flexible with the winds of change, to a degree... and is considered to be Tree of Peace with the Iroquois Federation...

this Khadi paper is a cotton rag from a community cooperative paper maker with SW India region...

there's a certain graphic character/quality to this drawing remembering me with my male youth indoctrinations with "Dick and Jane" genre children's lit with not so subtle patriarchal concepts...

Red Algae on Beach

Red Algae on Beach               22" x 30"               Beeswax & natural pigment
did this painting on Khadi paper in 2007. it keeps coming to my mind lately... that happens for artists as we re-visit recurring motifs of color, form and pattern interests. a constant searching for meaning and expression with it. was beginning to transcend doing paintings of subject of the landscape and painting the drawing of color forms on fields of drawing colors in between "realism" and idea/abstract, or sensing. a balance point.

nuts, seeds, waves and grid

nuts, seeds, waves and grid          11" x 24"          mixed media

Fall is approaching. The nuts and seeds are riding the energetic waves of the nature grid to our storage box grids. They all help to nourish & stabilize us (hu womyn/man), the animals, the earth and the elements with nutrients and a sense of interdependence.
In this {peace} acorns Quercus germinata , Sweetgum Liquidambar styraciflua fruit, Pecans Carya illinoinensis, beeswax, earth pigments, cardboard & Khadi papers make for the mix of mediums, streams of consciousness, and the powerful thread connecting all...

what does "how long did it take you to paint this" mean?

this stage of the painting is "about" 16 hrs of working the surface later than the last entry on it>>>

my mother used to tell my two brothers and I she wanted us to "sit enjoying the Sunday meal before us as long as it took her to prepare the meal". If she had said "as long as she spent enjoying preparing the meal before us" it may have had a different effect. She did tell us that because she worked all week and we were doing our thing it gave us the opportunity to catch up with each other. Meanwhile, "don't talk with your mouthful."
