wall
Tillson NY
11/19/16

wall is supported by 8 ∞ live saplings cut at a 10' height..I started cutting 4/20/16 after many months of being with the site/space and the basic concept… there are another 8 ∞ live woody Liana (vine) sp. that I've cut back from about 14' above ground...  they grew to the tops of an elder Eastern Hemlock Tsuga canadensis on the left and an elder Silver Maple Acer saccharinum on the right, each 2' in diameter… I've bound, and drawn, with the trimmed Liana giving support to the wall and providing line, shape line and form to the wall with their freshly pruned new growth. the wall will provide a new dynamic to the S<>N West side property fence already in place helping to provide structural support with it's metal grid construct. the wall will provide habitat for birds, insects and other critters as well provide a wind and an energy break with the homeowners' fire pit area about 30' East of the wall. more of the remaining undergrowth will be cut away with some being used in creating the wall. I'll be adding more with it as it develops and the homeowner, family and friends will participate creatively with wall...

drawing is shot standing atop a ledge drop of @12' with Hudson River surface...
green dot on the map is the site of this temporary installation where the Stockport Creek carries the Waters of the Kinderhook Creek, and the Claverack Creek in with the Hudson River... this is where the Dutchman Henry Hudson landed on his way up the Hudson on September 17, 1609 and proclaimed it Kinderhook as he saw many children playing along the shore here... the children gathered here from the native community living with the farm, fishing & hunting grounds and the Elements, that abound here... interesting paredolia, geometries and symbolisms with the land formations!...

Kinderhook Creek
Columbiaville NY

this site in Columbiaville is as the Kinderhook Creek merges with the Claverack Creek and the Southport Creek... the Southport Creek carries the Waters of the 3 Creeks in with the Hudson Riverleading to New York Bay and the Atlantic Ocean... the Natives that lived here were the Lenape to the South and the Mohawk, of the Iroquois Federation to the North... the Hudson River was called Muhheahkunnuk or Mohicanichtuck by the lenape and the Mohawk... it is  interpreted as river that flows two ways because of the Ocean tides that reach to above Albany NY to Troy NY (home of "Uncle Sam")... this area, Kinderhook or bend where the children are, is a powerful juncture geomantically with the Earth, Water, Air & Fire energetic...
the energetic of 3 numerologically "resonates with the energies of optimism and joy, inspiration and creativity, speech and communication, good taste, imagination and intelligence, sociability and society, friendliness, kindness and compassion. Number 3 also relates to art, humour, energy, growth, expansion and the principles of increase, spontaneity, broad-minded thinking, synthesis, triad, heaven-human-earth, past-present-future, thought-word-action, demonstrates love through creative imagination, comprehensive, fulfilment, encouragement, assistance, talent and skills, culture, wit, a love of fun and pleasure, freedom-seeking, adventure, exuberance, brilliance, free-form, being brave, non-confrontational, free-form, rhythm, passion, surprise, sensitivity, self-expression, affability, enthusiasm, youthfulness, enlivenment, psychic ability, manifesting and manifestation."...

STOCKPORT, NEW YORK, April 17, 2015) — Representatives from Skidmore College and Gravity Renewables and dozens of attendees gathered to mark the rededication of the historic Chittenden Falls Hydroelectric facility today. The project has reached a milestone in the refurbishment and preservation that will enable the facility to continue to produce power for decades to come—renovations that also include an on-site classroom that will serve as a learning resource for students and faculty. Previously the facility produced 2.6 million kWh annually. When work is complete, it’s expected to be able to generate as much as 4 million kWh each year...

the larger, lighter line across the Kinderhook above the hydroelectric facility marks the actual Chittenden Falls, that powered an 1800's paper mill... the green circle marks the temporary charcoal drawing installation...

the Mahican name for the Kinderhook Creek is Pasanthkack... and have not found a translation for that yet... any help with the translation will be appreciated, thanks...

and today is Veterans's Day... a day to honor the veterans of those who served our country with war... as one who stood ground as opposed to war because I accepted with my Heart the christian and buddhist teachings of not taking anothers' life... I and many like myself that refused to participate and did not participate with Viet Nam, and other wars, earn status as serving our country in this way... sacrificing through the costs we and our families faced with our decision to not participate with the organized killings... we are honored for our decision by many veterans who did fight the battles and I give thanks to them and to all "veterans" whose lives are deeply effected and affected by our individual decisions with involvement with war...
war is not a solution with humane global citizenry at hand...
only with integrity and honor as humanity will we stand and give thanks...
I'll be making art this day with the Kinderhook [Dutch for Children's Corner] Creek series...
and will begin posting those on Sunday...

is a version of the Ω... the Kinderhook marks w here just above where I did the charcoal drawing with the falls at the green southwesterly point on the map...

Stuyvesant Falls is a hamlet in the town of Stuyvesant in Columbia CountyNew YorkUnited States.[1] The zipcode is: 12174.[2] It was called Glencadia is the 18th century. The French—Scottish derivatives of Glencadia apparently mean a "creek region of simple pleasures." The name seemed to change in the early 19th century although a book published in 1914 refers to the village by the name Glencadia, not Stuyvesant Falls.[3

Before New York, before New Amsterdam – there was Lenapehoking, the land of the Lenape, the original inhabitants of the places we call Manhattan, Westchester, northern New Jersey and western Long Island.  This is the story of their first contact with European explorers and settlers and their gradual banishment from their ancestral land.
Fur trading changed the lifestyles of the Lenape well before any permanent European settlers stepped foot in this region. Early explorers had a series of mostly positive experiences with early native people.  With the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam, the Lenape entered into various land deals, ‘selling’ the land of Manhattan at a location in the area of today’s Inwood Hill Park.
But relations between New Amsterdam and the surrounding native population worsened with the arrival of Director-General William Kieft, leading to bloody attacks and vicious reprisals, killing hundreds of Lenape and colonists alike. Peter Stuyvesant arrives to salvage the situation, but further attacks threatened any treaties of peace.  But the time of English occupation, the Lenape were decimated and without their land.
And yet, descendants of the Lenape live on today in various parts of the United States and Canada.  All that and more in this tragic but important tale of New York City history. - http://www.boweryboyshistory.com/2016/06/sad-tale-lenape-original-native-new-yorkers.html

A History of the Town of Stuyvesant

by Juanita Knott, Stuyvesant Historian
Stuyvesant is in the northwest corner of Columbia County, bordered on the north by Rensselaer County, the east by the Town of Kinderhook, the south by Stockport and the west by the Hudson River.
Archaeological evidence demonstrates the Native Americans were in partnership with the land along the river's edge long before Henry Hudson made his exploration in 1609. They fished the river, planted corn and pumpkin. Communication was probably carried out by signal fires built on the shale hill above the waters they named Muhheakunnuk, meaning "great waters or sea-constantly ebbing and flowing."
In the mid-1700's local sloops, many belonging to beaver fur traders, plied the river. Formerly known as Kinderhook Landing, Stuyvesant became a separate township in 1823.
An agricultural community, several farms have been handed down through successive generations of the same family. A second principal waterway in the town is the Kinderhook Creek, with its two-step natural waterfall at Stuyvesant Falls. Both sides of the creek were claimed for paper and textile mills in the early 1800's.
Spectacular views of the upper and lower falls can be viewed from the historic iron truss bridge in the hamlet that spans the creek. The area at the north end of town became known as Poolsburgh, named after the VanderPoel family who settled there. They were instrumental in planning the course of the Farmer's Turnpike (now Route 9J) which was charted in 1813.
Using the clay along the riverbank, brick-making was an early local industry. Ice harvesting, another typical Hudson River industry, provided a valuable service in the pre-electric refrigeration days. Stuyvesant had as many as four large icehouses along its more than nine miles of shoreline.
Docking sites varied over the years following the natural changes of the river channel. Freight sloops made trips to New York City as early as 1820. In 1836, the Kinderhook Stuyvesant Steamboat Association formed.
Farmers as distant as Albany and Pittsfield, MA, used the Stuyvesant docks to ship and receive produce and goods.
A ferry service that ran until 1938 was established between Newton Hook and Coxsackie in 1820.
The Hudson River Railroad Company laid track along the east shore of the river in 1850, forever changing access to this neighboring waterway. Stuyvesant had freight and passenger service through the World War II years.
Stuyvesant Falls had rail service from 1891 to 1929. At first powered by steam, the railroad was electrified by the turn of the century and extended to Albany. The power that operated the third rail for the Albany & Southern Railway Company was generated at Stuyvesant Falls. - http://www.stuyvesantny.us/history.html
