with storage I brought up the series WebhGround, 9 paintings, 5 today, 4 tomorrow...

from 2009 - 2010 writing...
I construct the surface by attaching Papel de Amate to Khadi paper. Papel de Amate is made by the Atomi/Otami peoples of the central Mexico mountain region. The Atomi slice veneer like strips of Fig Ficus spp wood and lattice them together in a grid pattern. Khadi paper is handmade in the Khadi region of southern India from recycled cotton rags. Geographically and Geomantically (what many in these combined sciences refer to as Gaiagraphy) these two points on the Earth form a polarity within a few degrees along the same latitude. Webh is the proto Indo-European root word of the words web, weave and wave. With this series my intent is to create a global web, weave and wave of wholistic interconnectedness for us to meditate upon for world Love, Peace and Co-Creativity.
The overlay creates a grid like relief. The windows become paintings within the overall patterned webh. In layering the colors onto the surface the finished overall color pattern develops as a natural progression. In the final process I draw the colors together with a flat, pointed bone and completion of work with burnishing the surface with a soft cheese cloth. The burnishing of my work alchemically binds the waxes/pigment with fire, earth, air and water . The grid is the connecting between all that is. Within the windows represent the individuality and contrasting aspects of each that is; couple relationships, global communities relationship or the inner dynamic of each of me/us. It can represent philosophies, religions, politics, and/or non human entities; bears and/or mollusks, the inanimate, the immaterial or mountains, the oceans and/or the streams , the Sun and/or the Moon. The cosmos as infinite.
