This remnant of a fishing pier that extended out @100 yds is typical of the piers along the Carolina coast from the 20' and 30's. The African Americans were allowed to have one here. We have one left on the island that is maintained and used still. The others have been dismantled by hurricanes, nor'easters and general coastal wear. Portals as doorways used to focus for meditation and "astral" travel...
