Preparing for an Opening

Organizing work for hanging at Sage Salon and Spa.

WebhGround 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 (#3 will be at the Rocky Mount Museum until between Mon hanging and the 23rd Opening. Will plan in its' spot for the opening)

Picked up Chakra Rising Wave Series 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 from Porters Neck Yoga Spa this morning. They had "lost" the Bamboo rods and had been hanging them with fishing line. Some clean up of the work, as is typical after displaying somewhere for awhile and cutting and drilling 7 new rods.

Will take the large 5' x 10' Webh Celebration and my 3d piece Ocean Driftwood Wave for possible hanging if they fit the occasion. Other possibles include work from the Tile Series and the Infinity Series.
Will take many pieces and sense what I'll say with the presence of hanging the work in the space. Sage is an interesting space to display for me. They are a green Salon and Spa and have had their walls painted with non toxic wall paints and new "green surfaces and materials throughout the space. A higher energetic vibration that I'm excited about with hanging my work with. There are several rooms available for hanging.

Sage is preparing Invitations and will forward that for me to send out to my mail list and Sage is featuring it in their September newsletter. Natural Awakenings Mag announced it in their Aug issue and it will be on their calender of events online. I need to contact Going Green Mag to ask them to post it on their Calender today also. WILMA, Wilmington Women's mag may announce it in the photo op they gave me yesterday. Will also contact other local publications and hang the Invitation in various locations in our area.

Back to cutting and drilling more bamboo rods and selecting and cleaning and packing the pieces to take Mon.

pr and opening

Today I took a piece, WebhGround 3, into WILMA (Wilmington NC's magazine for women http://www.wilmaontheweb.com/) to be photoshot with other Wilmington area "green" products for their next issue focussing on  enviromental activities in our area.

and

While in town stopped at Sage Salon and Spa, http://sagespaandsalon.com/ and firmed up details with
co-owner Lauren Farraher. I'll be hanging a show of my work on Mon Aug 30th. We'll be having the opening Sept 23 and I'll give an Artist Talk the first week of Oct. Will be sure to post more on each of these.

Between technical challanges in my personal life and technical challanges with this particular piece itself it has taken me most of the summer to do WebhGround 7. Still, honing in on my technical challanges of the summer I neglected to post #6 on my blog. The previous 6 WebhGrounds were 20 - 30 hours each. Q. Where do these challanges come from!?  A. We invent them in our minds. Am I trying to find a way to charge more for my work? This won't work genius!
A real bargain for the interested. Will charge the same price as the others and subtitle it "Sale!!! 60% off manufacturers suggested list price!"
Want to write more on this, and will, or you can challange yourself and read more of my blog and the perspective I share with many.
WebhGround Series will appear in its current state publicly for the first time at my show at Sage Salon and Spa in Wrightsville Beach, NC on Sept 23, 6:30 - 8:30 pm with more of the Series and maybe even some other work...

Dragonfly

Carefully looking at the sky note the little streaks of darkness. Thousands of Dragonflies have been feeding over the Sea Oats for the past couple days. They are 2" - 3" long and seem to be feeding on smaller, not visable, flying insects hovering around the Sea Oats. Tonite they were all flying south in what seemed to be a great migration for them.

finding the "new" in older work...

While working with the primary and secondary colors in most of my making art life I recently re-discovered this piece my Mom has had while moving her to assisted living. Done in the late 60's I simplified the color to primary and black, simplified the design symbolism of the sun, sky and earth to shapes and lines, and my own image to a lively but simplified line drawing.
As artists looking back at our early work we can find/discover these consistencies and nuances in our work over the years and realize more in depth about what structures, motifs and color/line in our work continue to fascinate us...

Orange background with shift to second chakra

Have been with red, 1st chakra, background on blog for 52 days. Now moving to 2nd chakra with the Orange background for the next 52 days, Oct 10, 2010.
The 2nd Chakra or Sacral Chakra alligns us with the utilization of our creative forces into all aspects of our being, procreation of our enlightened soul and directing the self toward devotion and understanding of these energies and the sacred connection of each of us to all there is.

Grain Harvest Time, to some a fifth Season

                Rainy Day                                                          ©Greg Patch

The Sea oats are rained on just after ripe peak. Some birds come through feasting on the sweet morsels. There's not enough to harvest for my own use, the birds need to eat and the oats need to replenish themselves with fertile seed. Traditional cultures celebrate at the harvest times of their grains; wheat, oats, barley, spelt, corn, rye, millet, kasha, rice, etc. In northern European cultures this was the season of Lammas (pr. loaf mas), Aug 1st is usually a day of celebration, people feasting on the bounties of grains, staple to good health, for most. Here, after peak ripeness, the rain comes and turns the grain downward on its natural cycle with a little saturating water for nourishment, initiating its fall to the ground as a fertile seed to be held by the earth, regenerating for next spring.
