Curry, Curry and Curry

Curry, Curry & Curry and Coriander and Cilantro

The more commonly available Curry powder in US of A stores is a combination of several herbs. Turmeric root Curcuma longa, a strong dye, Coriander seed Coriandrum sativum (Cilantro is the leaf of Coriandrum sativum) and Cumin seed  are in it and typically give it the color we are familiar with. Globally, regional variations on other ingredients occur. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curry

Carnauba wax

 .....doing some research on materials...

Carnauba wax

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carnauba wax
Carnauba (English pronunciation: /kɑːrˈnɔːbə/ or /kɑːrˈnaʊbə/), also called Brazil wax and palm wax, is a wax of the leaves of the palm Copernicia prunifera, a plant native to and grown only in the northeastern Brazilian states of Piauí, Ceará, and Rio Grande do Norte.[1] It is known as "queen of waxes"[2] and usually comes in the form of hard yellow-brown flakes. It is obtained from the leaves of the carnauba palm by collecting them, beating them to loosen the wax, then refining and bleaching the wax.

[hide]

[edit] Composition

Carnauba palm
The main components of carnauba are aliphatic esters (40 wt%), diesters of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid (21.0 wt%), ω-hydroxycarboxylic acids (13.0 wt%), and fatty acid alcohols (12 wt%). The compounds are predominantly derived from acids and alcohols in the C26-C30 range. Distinctive for carnauba wax is the high content of diesters as well as methoxycinnamic acid.[3]
Carnauba wax is sold in several grades, labeled T1, T2, and T4, depending on the purity level. Purification is accomplished by filtration, centrifugation, and bleaching.

[edit] Uses

Sweets coated with carnauba wax
Carnauba wax can produce a glossy finish and as such is used in automobile waxes, shoe polishes, dental floss, food products such as sweets, instrument polishes, and floor and furniture waxes and polishes, especially when mixed with beeswax and with turpentine. Use for paper coatings is the most common application in the United States. It is the main ingredient in surfboard wax, combined with coconut oil.
Because of its hypoallergenic and emollient properties as well as its shine, carnauba wax appears as an ingredient in many cosmetics formulas where it is used to thicken lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, foundation, deodorant, various skin care preparations, sun care preparations, etc.[citation needed] It is also used to make cutler's resin.
It is the finish of choice for most briar tobacco or smoking pipes. It produces a high gloss finish when buffed on to wood. This finish dulls with time rather than flaking off (as is the case with most other finishes used).
In foods, it is used as a formulation aid, lubricant, release agent, anticaking agent, and surface finishing agent in baked foods and mixes, chewing gum, confections, frostings, fresh fruits and juices, gravies, sauces, processed fruits and juices, soft sweets, Tic Tacs, Altoids, and Swedish Fish.
Although too brittle to be used by itself, carnauba wax is often combined with other waxes (principally beeswax) to treat and waterproof many leather products where it provides a high-gloss finish and increases leather's hardness and durability.
It is also used in the pharmaceutical industry as a tablet-coating agent. Adding the carnuaba wax aids in the swallowing of tablets for patients. A very small amount (less than a hundredth of 1 percent by weight. i.e.: 30 grams for a 300 kg batch) is sprinkled onto a batch of tablets after they've been sprayed and dried. The wax and tablets are then tumbled together for a few minutes before being discharged from the tablet-coating machine.
In 1890, Charles Tainter patented the use of carnauba wax on phonograph cylinders as a replacement for a mixture of paraffin and beeswax.
An aerosol mold release is formed by suspending carnauba wax in a solvent. This aerosol version is used extensively in molds for semiconductor devices. Semiconductor manufacturers also use chunks of carnauba wax to break in new epoxy molds or to release the plunger when it sticks. When used as a mold release, carnauba, unlike silicone or PTFE, is suitable for use with liquid epoxy, epoxy molding compounds (EMC), and some other plastic types. Carnauba wax is compatible with epoxies and generally enhances their properties along with those of most other engineering plastics.
Carnauba is used in melt/castable explosives to produce an insensitive explosive formula such as Composition B, which is a blend of RDX and TNT.

[edit] Technical characteristics

  • INCI name is Copernicia Cerifera (carnauba) wax
  • E Number is E903.
  • Melting point: 82–86 °C (180–187 °F), among the highest of natural waxes.
  • Relative density is about 0.97
  • It is among the hardest of natural waxes, being harder than concrete in its pure form.[citation needed]
  • It is practically insoluble in water, soluble on heating in ethyl acetate and in xylene, practically insoluble in ethyl alcohol.

Wholistic Co-Creative Healing

a self/other cathartic writing of ...a processing transformation...
Moved this past winter in shifts, in a flash, drove to/from the northeast to visit family/friends and dropped from the ladder of the loft I was constructing. Was returning to my bed after taking a leak around 2:30AM am in the dark and the mattress I was gripped onto to pull myself up shifted. Letting go... and landed in a crouching position. One of my favorite yoga positions. The damage done. Acumulatively into the now with a sprained rt knee, strained right sacroilliac joint, stressed already stressed/never repaired dislocated left shoulder and severe bodily misalignment from compensating from the injuries had me down. Wholistic injury! Coming back up, leg stretches and twists are still shaky. Lots of stretching/restrengthening rehab to go and bionic dental surgery scheduled for the summer.
Many thanks for all the wonderful support I have received from 2 amazing physical therapists, several Reiki practitioners, an acupuncturist for depression; compromised liver, a fantastic alignment masseuse, an Ayurvedic dietary & herbal counsel for my prostate cancer combined with my own herbal protocol, making art, astrology, 3 different restorative yoga instructors, all the many guides, friends and family (particularly some of my Mom's great genes and encouragement that keep me trucking on!) and my own persistence and still learning self love/respect and accepting myself as a spiritual being in a human body. Toward healing Wholisticly. Tomorrow will start seeing a Network Chiropractic for more continuous healing work - enThanks all!

Love/Peace/Co-Creativity in healing to I/WE/ALL.

Summer Solstice Day 2011

Stonehenge

Red phoenix In ancient Chinese thought, summer was associated with the color red, the sound of laughing, the heart organ, the fire element and a red phoenix bird.
The Chinese were also great believers in balance. So to celebrate the summer solstice as the Chinese philosophers did, you might …
Stand facing south, considered the direction of summer in ancient Chinese philosophy. Just stand for a few moments and honor the “southness” of summer.
Balance your fire element. Go swimming in a cold, dark pool or stream.

Wear red!
Laugh. In the Chinese tradition, there are sounds associated with the five phases, and the sound associated with this part of the cycle – summer – is laughter. Remember, as I said above, that this phase is also associated with the heart organ? More and more often, in western thought, you hear that “laughter is good for the heart.”
The ancient Chinese philosophers would agree.

from http://expertscolumn.com/content/june-21-impact-summer-solstice-health

Impact of solstice on health
Ancient medicinal systems such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicines utilized these occasions of solstice to provide holistic treatments during these natural processes. Considering the needs of individual physical, emotional, and mental health, they treated to build up the body’s natural energies and keep them in balance.
1) Solstice may affect the balance of the body
According to the ancient Ayurvedic medical traditions summer is related to the element fire, which has much to do on metabolism and body systems. Ancient Chinese systems also say that the increase of Fire element affects the Yin and Yang balance.
Disharmony of this balance in elements may cause various ailments from headaches to muscle pain – especially in the elbow and the back of our shoulder.
2) Summer solstice is accompanied by the maximum heat of the sun and the climate in the atmosphere is affected resulting in storms, heavy rains and floods. The warmth and moisture due to climatic changes affect health of the body. In some Asian countries this change causes monsoons and spreading of diseases.
3) Due to high heat and temperature, much water from the body is eliminated by perspiration which causes dehydration and other troubles. If water is not replenished adequately, blood volume would reduce and brain will suffer from lack of blood that may cause nausea and headache.
4) Another reason for health problems in the body is the expansion of the periphery vein and more blood flow to periphery. This will affect the pressure condition of blood which leads to further complications. People who are generally weak and lack immunity may suffer from poor sleep, weak spleen and stomach, or poor appetite, etc.
5) Solar radiation and variations in the gravitational energy may affect the health system of the body. The patient with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular or urinary system diseases should be very careful during these changes of seasons.
Although the impact of the summer solstice is minor it is advisable to be careful, taking preventive methods not to expose oneself too much in the hot sun. Diet with fruits and vegetables and plenty of water is always encouraged.

the young were excited to get to drawing in their contribution and layers built as the older made their contributions. Colored waxes were placed first then the Water mediums; two colors of clay "slip" from the land the creating was done, the 3 dyes (Yellow Dock Rumex crispus, Coffee Coffea arabica & Blueberry Vaccinum spp.)
as Fire did its work to the diptych a fast moving thunder storm with heavy rains rolled in
and extinguished the burning at this stage. As it is, unrolled this morning in my back yard to dry...

...a progressing transformation... note 9 (Artist Intentions)

This Art Ceremony is an activating meditation on Love, Peace & Co-Creation using the energetics of Sacred Geometry to carry the message over the planet, out to the universe and into each individuals DNA memory. It is just one local action occurring over the Planet on the 2011 Summer Solstice of Love, Peace and Co-Creativity expanding in all directions in an awakening for All.
The 5 elements Air, Wood/paper, Metal/pigment & dyes, Water/vehicle & fire container, and Fire will all be a/part of this point in the process of transformation to a new work.
The work, a co-creation by the attendants of all ages present at the Solstice Celebration will be on cotton duck canvas. Before the two panels are placed upon the canvas participants will co-create this painting surface with the plant dyes Coffee Coffea Arabica berry, Yellow Dock Rumex crispus seed & root and Blueberry Vacinium spp. berry and crayons made of beeswax & natural pigment. Water and beeswax are the vehicles to carry the pigments onto the canvas. The canvas will be dampened with water as a vehicle and to prevent excess burn with the application of Fire. As this activity is fulfilled the two panels will be placed upon the surface. Here we will light the Jute Corchorus spp. ends to introduce fire near the time of dusk. The beeswax of this painting will behave similarly to a candle. The remaining pigment & ash will fall onto the canvas section creating further imagery to what becomes the new work.
It is a gift given/received by all for all.
The new work can be displayed by sharing among participants and can be used for Summer Solstice Celebration 2012.
This action on 6/18/11 will be videotaped by participants.

enThanks to self, family, friend, teacher/student, lifelihood, peace, love & co-creation.
